D3 (Data-Driven Documents) is the low-level JavaScript toolkit behind many of the libraries in this directory. Instead of chart types it provides modules for scales, shapes, layouts, transitions and data joins, so any visualization can be built from primitives.

D3 has an ecosystem of its own: for plugins, examples and learning material, see the dedicated Awesome D3 list.
